The AP is reporting that the Inspector General at the Department of Homeland Security found the reviews of FOIA requests by top political appointees were wasteful. The House of Representatives is investigating the matter.
As a sidenote, there is nothing wrong with agencies knowing what FOIA releases are coming down the pike that may bring them publicity -- both good and bad. I wrote about how agencies should go about being advised on high-level FOIA requests last fall over at LLRX.com.
