Sure, I'd rather OIP more actively, creatively and forcefully engage agencies on the most pressing FOIA problems, but I also think more meetings with requesters is a good thing. It opens a door for those in OIP to hear the public's concerns & ideas. Melanie Pustay spent some time explaining the agency perspectives on why backlogs are so long, etc. What really needs to happen is for OIP to continue these meetings with the idea of taking several of the biggest problems and putting resources to addressing them in some way, or at least making improvements within existing resources and explaining its limitations (and use the meetings to develop a list of actions and making budget requests to address them).

That would help make this meeting seem like more than just an exercise.
