I had hoped AG Holder would have knocked some reasonable sense into the "just because we can" holdover culture by now, instead of letting the courts do it for him.


This case was briefed long before Holder took office. In any event, much of the information at issue ultimately will be allowed to be withheld, because disclosure of law enforcement information about a third party typically would be unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. Neither Holder nor any other AG is likely to order agencies to makes discretionary releases of 7(c) information.
