DOJ Revised System of Records Notice

In March, the Department of Justice published a System of Records Notice that read as if the Department of Justice was going into the FOIA Ombudsman business -- even though that responsibility was given by statute to the National Archives and Records Administration ("NARA").  Following pressure from Congress and others, the Department of Justice promised to revise its earlier Systems of Records Notice.

On May 4, 2012, the Federal Register prepared a new Systems of Records Notice, which omitted the term "ombudsman."
