Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press reports that U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Paul Friedman has ruled that records concerning campaign contributions to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae under the control of the Federal Housing Finance Agency because of its conservatorship of the two organizations not agency records subject to the FOIA.
Judicial Watch, plaintiff in the matter, made the following statement and is considering its options on whether or not to appeal the decision.
I have long argued that Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae as well as other organizations that are quasi-governmental should be made subject to the FOIA by an act of Congress. This ruling only adds to this belief.
