New FOIA Legislation Introduced in Senate

Due to the roadblocks faced by the legislation introduced earlier this year in the Congress, Senators Leahy (D. Vt.) and Corywn (R-Tx) have introduced new legislation to amend the FOIA.

While I think the FOIA needs amending, and I know I'm a minority public airing this view, I still believe this legislation should wait until 2009.  The trend according to election watchers is that the Democrats will solidify their hold on Congress, and there will be a new president, who unlike the current one, may actually be FOIA Friendly (can there be one less friendly to the FOIA as the current one?).  Additionally, I don't believe Congress will want to tackle FOIA legislation two years in a row.

So, I believe Congress should wait and then in 2009 produce a much more requester friendly FOIA that also tackles the problem of funding for agency FOIA operations, which is untouched by the current pending bills.
